Annual Muslim-Catholic Interfaith Iftar Dinner

During the Holy Month of Ramadan, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. For many years, Muslim communities in and around Chicago have graciously opened their Iftar meal to Christians and those of other religious traditions.

The annual Muslim-Catholic Interfaith Iftar Dinner, sponsored by the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC), is an opportunity for Catholics to meet with their Muslim neighbors, to observe maghrib prayer, and to share a festive dinner and program. This wonderful yearly gathering allows Catholics to come to know better their Muslim friends in Chicago and their religious practices.

2018 Muslim-Catholic Interfaith Iftar Dinner

The 2018 Iftar took place at the Mecca Center in Willowbrook, Illinois. The program, reflected on the theme, “Overcoming Hate through Acts of Faith,” and included brief addresses by Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, Bishop R. Daniel Conlon, representatives from the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC) and plenary addresses by Fr. David Jones, Pastor of St. Benedict the African Church, and Dr. Zulfiqar Ali.

The Catholic-Muslim Scholars dialogue group is made of Catholic scholars appointed by the Archdiocese of Chicago and Muslim scholars appointed by the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago.
